Storylining Workshop

Date: Wednesday 23 Nov, 2016 - Wednesday 23 Nov, 2016
Time: 06:00 pm - 07:30 pm
Venue: Maraya Art Centre, Al Qasba, Block (E), First Floor (Maraya Community), United Arab Emirates

Storyline is a tool to create scenarios for innovation. Knowledge and skills (existing or acquired through research) about users of a new design comes to life and feelings and attitudes are played out in choices of behaviour for the characters in the story.

The Storyline approach deepens the designers’ understanding of and ability to empathise with the user of a potential new product or service.

The ‘line’ of events, which in the workshop is defined by the facilitator, defines a context, where the participants (designers) develop a story of challenges (needs) faced by the characters – a context for designing solutions.

The benefits of Storylining:

  • Build empathy for user of new design
  • Create scenarios to “test” ideas
  • Have fun
  • Reduce risks and overall costs
  • Bring better ideas into the world faster

The storyline process as facilitated in this workshop almost literally provides the participants with an opportunity to “step into the shoes” of the user of a product or service being designed. The participants will build props and act out the stories.

The ‘line’ is designed in a series of keyquestions provided by the facilitator. The participants will be presented with and practice a number of tools throughout the workshop.
