Designer-Makers’ Enterprise Workshop

Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, in conjunction with the Crafts Council UK, are proud to deliver a series of creative enterprise workshops for artisans and designer-makers based in the UAE.

Starting with their first two-day workshop on March 20-21, the topics covered will provide designer-makers with skills to develop and promote their craft practice and will include:

  • Business visioning
  • Presentation skills
  • Branding and marketing
  • Pricing and planning
  • Relationship management with galleries and commissioners
  • Talks by two Emirati craft-inspired businesses

The two-day workshop also provides an open atmosphere that encourages discussion and informal networking between designers-makers at all stages of their craft business.

This workshop is suitable for both established and aspiring designers-makers and artisans, including but not limited to those practicing product design, jewellery, decorative arts, ceramics, silversmithing, perfumery, calligraphy.

Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council is an initiative under the umbrella of NAMA Women Advancement Establishment (NAMA), a women’s empowerment organization chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah.

The council aims to empower women economically and socially through the crafts across the MENASEA and Central Asia regions. By representing both traditional and modern crafts, it aims to create new market opportunities, deliver social development programmes, host vocational training and preserve the skills and rich cultural heritage of the region for current and future generations.
